Breaking news out of Mammoth Mountain where five people are reportedly injured after an explosion at a condo near the ski resort. NEWS4 reports the Mammoth Lakes Police Department responded to the Val d’Lsere Condominiums at 194 Hillside Drive on the report of an explosion. Everyone is asked to avoid the area until further notice. The cause of the explosion is under investigation.

EXPLOSION AT VAL D’ISERE CONDOMINIUMS IN MAMMOTH LAKES:
On Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at approximately 9:23am, Val d’Isere Condominiums located at 194 Hillside Drive, experienced an explosion.
Upon arrival, first responders found a building collapsed next to the pool area. Two complex workers were visible with one needing extraction from the snow and debris. Both workers were transported to Mammoth Hospital for further evaluation.
A man approached first responders stating that his wife and son were trapped in their residence. In order to reach them, Rescuers hiked around the northwest side of the collapsed structure. The son was located in the bedroom area, was carried out and transported to Mammoth Hospital for evaluation. The wife was located in the kitchen area and was transported to Sierra Lifeflight at the Mammoth Yosemite Airport.
USAR Teams are currently on scene doing sweeps for any additional victims. Eastside K-9s are also on scene. This area is restricted, please avoid this area. For incidents information contact Stuart Brown, Town of Mammoth Lakes Public Information Officer at 760-914-7110

“Today we had a major explosion with a propane tank, which caused building collapses in a condo complex in Mammoth Lakes. We have emergency crews from all over the state, currently working frantically to extract people, trapped inside the complex.”

“Well, we started out with another day moving snow as normal when at around 9:30 AM. I started getting a lot of frantic texts and calls. The guys were working up at the village on the roof like normal and a huge explosion went off sending everybody to the ground immediately shortly there after Search and rescue along with many other agencies started showing up. We learned that a propane tank had exploded and collapsed a condo complex. We are keeping up with the situation and will keep you updated as things progress there were injuries reported and we are sending out prayers to everyone involved”
